Wasn't impressed by the extortionate price for food, £15 for a chilli dog, fries and a small bottle of Carlsberg. Next year I'll be taking my own sarnies!!

Trafford Centre is just across the road, Ade. We went for a Thai lunch at Chao Baby today. £13.95 for all you can eat, and top notch food, too.

Some of the crew from RGP and the New Frontier Arcade. Fuzzy wasn't here on the day of the pic, but certainly did more than his fair share of cab moving and repairs over the course of the event and the lead up to it. As did Philv85 who I had not noticed had disapeared when the photo was being taken but was there the entire time. A fun game to join in on is spot Gaz!

Result!

Great pics, Ant. Dave Prowse and Kenny Baker were really nice guys.

Otto is missing from the group pic as well - I suspect he was either eating a jam and peanut butter sarnie or trying to fix a random member of the public's Atari VCS when the photo was taken.

Yup, but it's not exactly far to walk to the food court in the Trafford centre or the big ass Asda to feast/stock up

To be slightly fair to the vendors they charge so much because the events themselves charge so much to get a spot at them.

Indeed, I was shocked to find out that Event City charged Exhibitors £75 to have access to Wifi for the weekend. Disgraceful really considering there was virtually no data connection available (except in the toilets) so they are exploiting that as well.

IMHO the event has now become far too commercialised. It used to be all about the games (both retro and modern) but now it's 50% about the games and 50% about the commercial opportunity. I doubt I'll be going next year. Being as though I spend 90% of my time in the arcade and it cost me £15 to get in and £15 for food I'd rather just go to the next New Frontier event and give my money directly to James and Andy. That way I know it's going to a good cause and not lining the pockets of greedy corporate execs.

Generally a good event, but I echo what's been said above. I knew food prices were likely to be high so avoided buying anything there. Drinks prices were not too bad. I think I paid about £2 for a bottle of 7Up. They are about £1.50 usually? Not sure about the pint prices, as I didn't take much notice then.

Saturday was packed so it was harder to get one games. Sunday was a lot quieter so a lot easier, but certain things like the VR machines always had a queue, so unfortunately I missed out of that

It's not just this event but all corporate events that charge a fortune for meals etc.

For the last 12 years, I've been taking my own grub/snacks and drinks to events.

Yeah, I was quite torn at the event. Whilst it's always great to find a lineup of classic cabs and pinballs, the event wasn't really aimed at me as an arcade cab enthusiast. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing the cabs, and it was good to catch up with everyone - I had a passing interest in some of the other things at Play Expo, but I'm not sure it warrants the upheaval to me personally to get there and back and associated costs. If the cabs weren't there, I wouldn't make the trip. My lad enjoyed himself so that was more important I guess. Not sure I'd do another next year though.

Any major events i've been to like this or exhibitions my wife goes to in London (Good Food type of exhibition) the food prices are always sky high.

I had a burger which was £5 so 'high' but i must admit it was a 'proper' burger and not a usual greasy spoon type of cheap burger and was really nice. Plus i think i'm in my 40's, a quid or two more for a burger is nothing when i used to fork out £40 for megadrive games back in the 90's ! Plus there was that cheaper burger place outside and a bit of a walk into the Trafford Centre and you have a ton of places to eat

Sounds bad about the internet access, doubt thats nothing to do with the organisers though, sounds like Play Expo taking the mick themselves.

But yeah any huge event like this there'll always be high prices for food/drink, same for practically any large venue

I got a sausage barn for £2.20p in the van outside the entrance which I thought was pretty good for a event inside was a different story.
